How to paint with metallic paint

If you want to know how to paint with metallic paint, follow the guide below. It is based on Hammerite Quick Drying Radiator Paint Gloss.

  1. All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from rust, flaking paint, dirt, dust and grease.
  2. Rub down all painted surfaces with abrasive paper to provide a firm base and remove any rust. As with all water-based paints, very thorough surface preparation is essential.
  3. Remove all dust created by rubbing down. Where necessary wash the surface with dilute detergent, rinse with clean water and allow time to dry.
  4. Bare cast iron surfaces should be primed with a suitable metal primer before applying Hammerite Quick Drying Radiator Paint. For best results use Hammerite No.1 Rustbeater.
  5. Do not use or store in extremes of temperature and protect from frost. Special precautions should be taken to avoid inhalation of dust during surface preparation of pre-1960’s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead.
  6. Ideal application temperature is 8 to 25°C. Do not apply Hammerite Quick Drying Radiator Paint at temperatures below 5°C.
  7. Stir thoroughly before use. Apply 1 or 2 coats of metallic paint. Allow 4 hours between coats.
  8. Touch dry in 2 hours, recoat after 4 hours.

After use, remove as much metallic paint as possible from brushes before cleaning with clean water.
